What is World Fair Trade Day?
World Fair Trade Day is the one time each year when people around the world join together to create a BUZZ about the benefits of fair trade.
EVERYONE can participate. Whether you are a member of a sustainability-minded community group, a teacher, a shop owner, or simply an individual concerned about those who make the products you use, there is a unique contribution that YOU can make in the days and weeks around May 10, 2008.
How can I make a difference?
§ Get the word out. Order free World Fair Trade Day (WFTD) posters off the website and distribute them to all the cafes, bookstores, schools, and community centers in your area.
§ Organize an event. Organize a fair trade soccer game in your local park, enter your students' artwork in a Fair Trade Art contest, or host a fair trade teach-in for your faith community. The WFTD site offers tons of great ideas and tools for celebrating World Fair Trade Day in April and May. Use the resources provided by FTRN and its partners to make it happen in your community!
§ Join the fun! Use FTRN’s events listings to check out WFTD events taking place in your area and PARTICIPATE.
§ Buy fair trade. Make a special effort to buy fair trade in the weeks around World Fair Trade Day. Bring a friend to a fair trade retail shop to introduce him/her to all that is good about fair trade. Find a retail location using tools on FTRN's site.
§ Give Something. Do Something. (We’ll Help.) Contribute to FTRN and we’ll give you a free Fair Trade Sports soccer ball or a copy of Jacqueline DeCarlo’s soon-to-be released Fair Trade: A Beginner’s Guide to use at your fair trade event.
